April 13, 2017 Parent Group Meeting Minutes

• Color Run:  June 24, 2017.   A sign up genius will go out for volunteer needs closer to the event. Don't forget to turn in your address forms. We still need business sponsorships.  You can suggest a business and a volunteer will call to solicit the sponsorship. 

• Laptops-       The laptops purchased by the PTO were rolled out to students.  This week they were used by 5th-8th graders for M-Step.  This is where a lot of the money raised by the PTO last year went.  Without this money for the laptops, students would have had to use iPads or shared the computer lab with Roosevelt (roughly 500 students combined).  The PTO would love to buy another set of laptops with monies raised this year - depending on how fundraising goes. 

• Volunteer Roles-   If you would like to assist the PTO in a board position next school year there are opportunities for several positions.  We'd love to have new ideas and a fresh perspective.  Contact any board member to learn more of what they do. 

• Teacher Appreciation-    Make sure to check out the sign up genius for teacher appreciation week on the website.

• Upcoming Events-   Plans are in the works for 5th grade recognition, 8th grade graduation, and end of year celebration. 

Next Meeting is May 8, 2017 at 6:30pm in the Roosevelt Cafeteria.

March 2, 2017 Parent Group Meeting Minutes

• FORK IT OVER:  Tomorrow is Fork It Over.  Come out to be with adults, meet other parents, and bid on awesome things.  Don't forget to BYOB.  Sign up to bring a dish to pass if you'd like.  Plates and napkins will be provided.

• THE COLOR RUN:  The Color Run is June 10 at Ridgepoint Church trails.  We need sponsors and people to solicit donations.  Our goal is to have t-shirts with sponsors on the back.  If you are interested in helping, contact Tom Smolinski.
• PTO BUDGET:  The bulk of the PTO budget comes from these two events.   Join us and support the school so that we don't have to sell candy bars door to door. 

• END OF YEAR CELEBRATION:  End of year celebration will be at Adams this year.  It will be a field day type event.  Ideas for the day include kickball, basketball, Critter Barn visit, ice cream social, bounce house, slip and slide, capture the flag, sprinkler, unique fruit tasting buffet, gaga pit, and dunk tank.  There is interest in checking out the Drenthe Park across the way so that there is shade during the day.  This year the pool party will be held the day before the last day of school.

• SERVICE PROJECTS:
• Service project idea for April is to have a yard or beach clean up.  In May we are looking into reading and doing games at a nursing home. 
• In May we're going to do a overall thank you to Adams school for letting us use their space by sending Lifesaver candies.  In August we'll focus on the specific teachers that helped us out by letting us use their space. 

• SOCIAL NIGHTS:  Looking for ideas for a night to socialize with the kids.  Movie, game, roller skating, and bowling were ideas that were discussed.  One of the classes could run a concession stand for a class fundraiser. 

• TEACHER APPRECIATION:  A teacher appreciation sign up genius will be coming in April for the May events.  There will be food items needed to feed the teachers and there will be raffle items sought for the teacher raffle. 

• ZQUEST PLAY- "STUART LITTLE":  Check out the sign up genius for the try out's for the play.  It is 3/20 at 4 p.m.  Note the performances are right before break week - May 25 and 26.

• MARCH IS READING MONTH:  March is Reading Month has kicked off.  Carol Gurnsey will get back to us with dates that we can volunteer to spiff up the library.  There will be a sign up genius with slots to fix labels on shelves, organize shelves, and get books ready to check out.  Mrs Hooker said that A-N scholastic books (new or used) are needed for the ZQuest JRL library.
